Cristiano Ronaldo Aims to Retire at 41 After 2026 World Cup

Iconic footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has apparently shared concrete retirement plans for the first time. As per reports from Saudi journalist Ali Al-Harbi, the five-time world footballer "intends to take part in the 2026 World Cup and subsequently bid farewell to his football career."  Ronaldo would reach the age of 41 by that juncture.

The 2026 World Cup will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico and would be Ronaldo's last chance to win the big title. A trophy that the 2016 European champion is still missing, even after 20 years in the national jersey.

Under new Portugal coach Roberto Martinez, Ronaldo remains a Seleção staple. "A player like Cristiano can bring in a lot of experience, he is a very important figure for the team," Martinez said at the start of the year.

In addition to the Euro 2016 title, Ronaldo also secured victory with Portugal in the Nations League in 2019.
